Pilu at Freshwater is a gem in the Northern beaches area of Sydney. Providing both a traditional Sardinian menu and a modern menu with the backdrop of the ocean and surfers catching waves in the distance, this restaurant is light, summery and refreshing.
This was the first time I dined at Freshwater and I was able to do so thanks to First Table who gave me the opportunity! I took my mum here because she has wanted to go for a very long long time and we had a really nice evening. With a couple of glasses of Sardinian and other Italian wines we really enjoyed it. The food was outstanding…and I love how they offer both a traditional and a modern menu..we picked and chose from the two and had plenty to eat. It’s hard to say which dishes stood out, however I loved the smoked quail with grapes and stracciatella because it was a really interesting combination of flavours that I’ve never tried before. The octopus was so soft it was incredible and that was definitely my mums favourite dish. The bisque that came with my mackeral was absolutely delicious…I would love the recipe for that. Also, of course the pasta dish that we tried (Culurzones) took me back to one night that I spent in Cagliari, Sardinia. Their wine menu is also worth noting…it’s very comprehensive and offers so many organic and natural wines.
